I bought one of these a couple of years ago, and I haven't been disappointed with it. 'It does what it says on the tin' is a good way to describe it. The gloss finish is flawless, the solid woods are clear grained, the feel of the guitar in the hand is good and well balanced, and with its solid Engelmann spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with rosewood insert, ebony fretboard and bridge, and gold plated machine heads, the spec screams quality. When it arrived I found a well set up guitar, with a low action, smooth machine heads, and ready to play straight out of the box. One thing I did do though was fit a set of D'addario coated strings (12-54) before I played it, so I don't know what it would have sounded like on the original factory strings. I keep meaning to take it to a local luthier to get it checked over for little things like frets that haven't been set properly, or for micro adjustments to the neck and action, but to be honest, the guitar is so easy and rewarding to play, with no buzzing of strings anywhere on the fretboard, that I don't think it would be necessary.
As to the sound, I find each string has a clear tone when finger picked, yet the overall tone is mellow when strummed, and it can be loud if you want it to. I have three other acoustic guitars to compare it with, one of them an all solid wood guitar like the Yamaha, the other two having solid spruce fronts, but laminated backs and sides, and I find the Yamaha has the clearest and most balanced tone of all of them, as well as being the loudest. It is also a comfortable shape to play, despite having a larger lower bout than my other dreadnought guitars, and doesn't seem to cut into my left elbow in the way the others do.
So would I recommend this guitar to anyone else? Absolutely! It has that same bell like quality as a Martin, yet costs much less than a Martin to buy. Furthermore, you are getting a genuinely hand-built instrument into the bargain, and for a bargain price.
My one caveat here is that mine was made in Taiwan, but now I believe they are made in HangZhou in China. I don't know if this would have an affect on anything, but I doubt it would, as I don't think Yamaha would put their name to anything they thought would lower their reputation, and the LL models have a very good reputation.
