18" Diameter, 24" Depth, QUADURA � Chrome. Remo manufactures all the essential Surdo & Repiniques sizes for a complete bateria percussion ensemble. The Surdo is the heartbeat of the samba rhythm. It is the large bass drum that is played using a soft mallet for the percussion ensembles in the Brasilian Carnaval.

Remo is a Brazilian company and they know their Samba drums. This model is the smallest of the surdo family, and usually called a "cortador" or, less commonly, "tercero". I only mention this because the listing for it doesn't and IMO that would have been helpful.

At any rate, it came complete with a tuning key, a very nice and useful little bonus. It also shipped promptly. I'm very happy with my experience.

Either head can be the batter or resonating head. Both heads are synthetic which produces a bright, brassy note compared with a skin head. They're also easier to keep in tune than skin.
