I have gone thru 6 V's in the last 2 yrs... some not too pricy and then there's the Gary Holt ... Keep in mind Gary Holt doesn't even play active pickups so its sort of a signature model by endorsement only. I am almost inclined to return it... The problem with this thing is 3 fold.. First the coil tap only works on the neck pickup, they only have one coil splitting humbucker in it, the 81..Secondly it uses EMG active pickups that are way way too bright.. I have a couple other guitars with emgs and the only way to tame them is to turn the volume down and trim the tone.. Which leads to the third problem there is no tone nob... I have found the only way to play this guitar (using a Blackstar amp.. that's made for metal) is to turn the volume almost all the way down. and to practically zero out the treble on the amp.. Until I figured this out the thing drove me insane... such a great player with terrible sound.. If I keep it Ill have to either rewire it and add another splittable pickup so both pickups tap. I even thought of putting a trim pot on the back cover and wire it in as a tone control.
Oh almost slipped my mind.. you can't turn the gain up on an amp more than 40% or it just sounds like noise.
The body and construction is top notch.. but what good is a guitar if it sounds like duty. You don't see many review of this guitar.. and maybe because hardly anyone owns one or keeps it after they do buy it. I've tried on a DBZ Cavallo V and liked it a lot more than the schecter GH V-1
What I find funny is that I've tried to give an honest review on other sites that are currently selling this model and they will not post them.. But if you look hard enough "The Truth Is Out There" I guess if it doesnt help with sales they don't want you to read it
