Features: 20" A Zildjian Armand Ride Drumset Cymbals / Cast Bronze Cymbals / A Zildjian Series Classic A Zildjian Ride that offers a sweet shimmering quality of overtones without loss of control or Ride articulation, with a larger sized cup for excellent bell access. Based on the popular 19" Armand "Beautiful Baby" Ride and the inimitable sound of the 60's, the Armand Series is an excellent addition to the classic A Zildjian range of cymbals, offering their own distinct characteristics. New shaping techniques create a slightly lower profile and help to offer a special warm and smooth blend of overtones. Lighter weight specifications promote a fast cymbal response with special lower pitched overtones without the loss of projection potential. To my ears this is as close as you are going to get to a vintage A-series circa 1950s/early 60s in a modern cymbal. The sound and feel remind me of my first ride back in 1964. Back then we used our cymbals as crash/rides and this one is one of the few modern cymbals that can be used in both roles. The sound is slightly lower pitched than other A-series, but higher than Zildjian's K-series. It has a clear stick articulation, but also has over- and undertones. This would fail miserably if you are looking for a ping ride, but if you are playing classic rock, R&B or blues this is perfect. In fact this will also work with jazz. Listen to Joe Morello's ride in Time Out and you will have an idea how this one sounds.
When crashed this opens up quickly, but has a lot of sustain after the initial attack. The bell is adequate, but not particularly loud or cutting. It's more suited for lower volume music. This is a cymbal that you will want to check out in person because I have owned and played a few of these and no two are alike. The one I currently own is a keeper, but I went through two others before I found one that I loved. However, if you can only find this online the chances of you loving it are high if you play any of the music genres I mentioned above for which this ride is best suited.
