I have long rued the day I sold my Zildjian A Series 21-Inch Sweet Ride Cymbal, but this makes up for my stupidity. Everything I loved about that one I love about this and more.

First, this cymbal has a wide dynamic range from very quiet to loud. Depending, of course, how you play it. There is a lot more wash on this one than its smaller sibling, and for some types of music that can work against you. Also, because of the geometry and size it will take a little practice to coax the nuances this cymbal is capable of delivering. If you are not a nuance sort of drummer you can be assured that it crashes like the end of the world and can get pretty loud if you use a heavy stick and lay into it. The bell, too, will cut through just about anything if you play it hard.

I am not that kind of drummer, so I appreciate the way this cymbal reacts to my stick, the lower pitch that only a large cymbal with this one's profile exhibits. I also love the many colors in my sonic palette that I can call on from just this ride. One final thing that makes this special to me is how beautiful the crescendos sound when you take mallets to this cymbal. Truly gorgeous.

About the 'extras' that ship with this cymbal. If you are proud of your Zildjian logo toss the polish in the trash. It will clean your cymbals, but it will take off the logos faster than you can blink. The sleeve is a nice touch, though. It will keep this treasure from keyholing, and is a reminder that each of your stands should be outfitted with one.

Back to the cymbal - this is a true winner from Zildjian. It will work with just about any musical style except those that require a ping or high definition ride sound. And, yes, this is well suited to all forms of jazz.
