Features: 21" A Zildjian Armand Ride Drumset Cymbals / Cast Bronze Cymbals / A Zildjian Series Classic A Zildjian Ride that offers a sweet shimmering quality of overtones without loss of control or Ride articulation, with a larger sized cup for excellent bell access. Based on the popular 19" Armand "Beautiful Baby" Ride and the inimitable sound of the 60's, the Armand Series is an excellent addition to the classic A Zildjian range of cymbals, offering their own distinct characteristics. New shaping techniques create a slightly lower profile and help to offer a special warm and smooth blend of overtones. Lighter weight specifications promote a fast cymbal response with special lower pitched overtones without the loss of projection potential. If you like rides with a little character and a lot of versatility this is a great choice. While it falls on the bright side sonically, it has nice over- and undertones that make it perfect for blues, classic rock and some jazz - among others. To some using a relatively bright ride for jazz may seem counter-intuitive, but consider the ride Joe Morello used on Take Five (or the entire Time Out album). This ride has the right balance of brightness and wash, which makes it one of the most versatile ride cymbals in my arsenal. I pair mine with Armand hats and the Zildjian 19-Inch Armand Zildjian Beautiful Baby Ride Cymbal on the left and it's a perfect configuration for what I play.
Another reason why I assert that it's versatile is it is a crash/ride that does both equally well. I know that Zildjian does not advertize it as such, but it sounds perfect when playing accents or crashes. The bell is also strong.
The bottom line is this cymbal will work with just about any style of live music except those requiring a dry, ping ride. To be honest, it may be a bit of a challenge in the studio because of the wash, but if you have a good engineer you can capture the classic sound of a circa 1950s-60s Zildjian ride.
