I don't write reviews, but felt compelled to do so here. I got this from Amazon yesterday and I am very impressed. I ordered it as a fixer-upper, hoping the neck and body would be decent, because I liked the body shape, and had planned to replace all the hardware and pickups. Well, it has a real feel of quality to it. Light in weight without feeling cheap, and the neck is great, very solid and quality feeling-a little wide, but thin and playable. Balances perfectly on my shoulder. The frets are nicely dressed- no buzzing and it has played great right out of the box without any setup needed. The narrow waist of the body is perfect to rest my hand on for finger plucking the strings, so not having a contoured top doesn't matter. It's just right. The metallic red paint really looks classy both in the light and especially in low-light. The rosewood fretboard on mine is dark, not light like in the picture here on Amazon, and smooth. It has a beefy angled headstock. As far as fixing it up with aftermarket parts- the bridge and tuners are solid and not cheap feeling or cheap looking- I like them and will keep them on it. The sound of the pickups is not bad at all- getting good P-bass tones as well as other jazzier sounds. Only negative I can find is that I am getting some occasional hum/microphonic buzzing, not sure what it is yet, lack of shielding and low end electronics probably. At this point, I will just replace the vol and tone pots and shield the cavities with copper tape. So if I do that and even replace the pickups, I will still only be out about $200 for what will be a quality bass with very cool, unique looks.
I feel like I got an amazing bargain on this- you know that smug feeling you get when you totally score on what you get versus how little you paid for it. I don't know why they are giving these away for a little over $100 on Amazon but do yourself a favor and get one fast before they are gone.
