Washburn WD25 Series WG26S Acoustic Guitar Review

I am a guitar collector and amateur guitar tech.

I have picked up this guitar at a local music store. Its loud, clear tone and nearly perfect
intonation stood out immediately.
It is a lightly built, responsive guitar with solid cedar top and laminated rosewood back and sides.
Nicely appointed, with a real abalone strip around the soundhole and around the top.
Cheap, mediocre tuners (bottom of the line Grovers I think)
I swapped out the tuners to a set of Grover Deluxe Keystone tuners immediately, these look and work much nicer.

With a bit of setup, a slight top re-voicing, a decent set of strings, and a tuner swap this guitar holds its own
against most sub-$1000 priced competitors.

The X-brace does not have an X-patch, and adding one greatly improves the tone. Google for "Ervin Somogyi" to find out
more about this mod. However, the guitar sounds quite impressive as-is. The setup and QA is a bit of a hit-or-miss
but this can be usually remedied by a good quitar tech (a truss rod adjustment and fine-tuning the string
height at the nut will usually do the trick).

In stock configuration: the guitar's voice lacks complex reverb-like overtones (e.g. it is unlike a Larivee
or a high-end Eastman). This can be improved, by re-shaping the top's main x-braces to approach a parabolic shape.

Another thing I really like about Washurn guitars is their stability. I have yet to see top crack or a neck hump
on a Washburn due to the guitar drying out. I had a Martin that had to be re-humidified regularly, else it would develop a hump on
the fingerboard where the fingerboard overlaps the body. I read about these "dry guitar" problems being the owners own fault and
laugh: "my Washburn never does that" so I know it is possible to construct a dry-out resistant guitar.
(Never the less, I keep acoustic guitars in their cases when not in use, and so should you)
