This is a quality guitar made in Japan that is more affordable than American made guitars of similar quality. It is acoustic electric, and the electronics are very nice sounding. This guitar was made for performers. I like the positioning of the tuner and EQ on the shoulder of the guitar. It is easy to see without too much head turning. The fretboard radius is 12 inches. My understanding is that Martins typically have a 16 inch radius, so the P1D is more playable for fretting chords than a Martin. The neck is asymmetrical for increased comfort during extended play. The action is nice (though I think that could be because the shop I purchased this guitar from did a nice set up). The string through bridge makes changing strings during sets easier because there are no pegs to remove. The nut and saddle are bone, and the saddle is split, they say for better intonation. I can't tell so far if that is true but it looks cool. Speaking of looks, this guitar is classy and traditional looking. It's made of solid cedar on top and sapele on the sides and back. The neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard. The cedar top has gloss finish while the sides and back have a satin finish. I've looked at the specs for the other pro series guitars (2-7) and it seems like the more expensive models have fancy binding, inlay dots, gold tuners, etc. There are also differences in wood, like some models use a spruce top instead of cedar. But fundamentally the electronics and craftsmanship are the same. If you are a performer, you'll especially appreciate this guitar but I think any player will love it as long as you don't prefer flatter, bigger necks.
