Product Description

This soprano ukulele has a sweet sound and authentic craftsmanship that brings to mind the most traditional Hawaiian ukuleles. This model has a highly radiused top and back and a super-thin gloss finish for a more expressive tone. The soprano ukulele features all-solid mahogany on the front, back and sides that's carefully graduated, a one-piece mahogany neck, and a bone nut and saddle. The uke also comes with deluxe adjustable friction tuners and D'Addario strings.

Silver Creek All Solid Soprano ukulele Natural Review

The Silver Creek uke is only so-so, much better ukes for the price (like my Ibanez concert). Thick wood (albeit solid), I agree with the one online full review (not the MF reviews, but there is one person who reviewed it well and fully), it has a sort of dead sound. I bought Aquilla strings and it helped immensely, but still, the friction-tuned SC uke is so-so. The full online review, which is spot on for accuracy, is on ukeeku dot com. It's from May 5, 2010. This SC uke is the same as the Koloa KU-600.

Although the cheapest solid body uke available, The SC (and Koloa KU-600) are with very thick, dense wood. They are not dainty instruments, by any means. Even the body is a full 3 inches thickness, much larger than a typical soprano uke at about 2.5 inches. It has a small sound hole, and farily high string action. All this, plus the stock strings (said to be D'addario, but I don't know about that) leads to a dead, tinny sound. Poor. The Aquilla strings I changed to helped immensely. But, not enough to say this uke plays or sounds or even looks better than my Ibanez cut-away concert uke for the same price. I almost returned this SC to MF, but kept it only when it became a tad more lively with the new strings. Still, I'm on the fence about it. It's hard to get a superb soprano for under a couple hundred bucks, and usually only the three hundred plus dollar ones are worth their salt. So, I keep this SC as player for trips and travel because of its size. Plus, it fits in the SC hard case splendidly (see my review of that case Vintage Hardshell Case for Soprano Ukulele

Hey, bottom line: Silver Creek uke... grade B- (before the Aquilla strings, it was a C-).

Thanks. Sayonara
