The V16 Hard Rubber Mouthpieces are inspired by the sound of the greatest jazzmen from the fifties to the present. The V16 mouthpiece blows easily and sounds great. These mouthpieces have great punch, yet maintain a smooth tone at any dynamic level. The V16 is available with 3 tip opening sizes: B5, B7, and B9. B5 is flexible in playing and application. B7 has the qualities of the V5 series B75 with the sound of the V16. B9 brings out the baritone's power. Vandoren JAVA, V16 and ZZ reeds are recommended for these mouthpieces.

I just purchased a V16 Baritone Saxophone Mouthpiece (B5). I am a student at a music conservatory and I was looking for a mouthpiece with a med tip opening and a med facing. This mouthpiece makes it easy to produce a mellow tone with a good balance of volume and control. If you want to play FFF with a tone like a chain saw you should look for another mouthpiece. If you want to sound more like gerry mulligan and still have enough volume to play in a big band then the V16 series is a good choice. I have played on several Vandoren mouthpieces over the last 8 yrs and each one was fantastic. Just be sure to find a tip opening that fits your tastes (google mouthpiece tip opening chart) and also be careful to find a good fitting ligature. For some reason it was hard for me to find a ligature for this mouthpiece. I think that Vandoren makes one now but the Vandoren optimum or Rico H tenor (TENOR) Hard Rubber ligatures work fine. The regular optimum ligature for bari is too large for this mouthpiece.
